A study permit application is a mandatory immigration document an international student must possess before they arrive in Canada. All international students, with the exception of those studying in a program that is less than 6 months in duration require this permit.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, all international students wishing to travel to Canada should regularly consult Canada’s Travel requirements and restrictions for international students. This website is maintained by the Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) in coordination with provincial, territorial and other federal partners and is updated frequently. Before you can apply for a study permit, you need to have a Letter of Acceptance from a school, university or college in Canada. This means you need to find a school or program, apply to your program(s) of choice and receive an acceptance letter from a school, college or university in Canada.
It is important to confirm that you are eligible to apply for a study permit. It could take 3 months to get a study permit, depending upon the country where you are. We would suggest to you to apply as soon as possible when you get the acceptance letter from a Canadian College or University. You need to apply online for the Visa application and get your biometrics date from the nearest Visa Application Centre (VAC). After the biometrics is conducted, the decision is made for the approval of your Visa and the consulate asks for the submission of your passport, if a visa is granted.
